A ‘confidential’ letter has surfaced online that suggests that Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has nominated Member of the East African Legislative Assembly, Simon Mbugua, as Deputy Governor.
The letter, which has been labelled as confidential and dated 9th December 2019, Governor Sonko has allegedly forwarded his name to the County Assembly for vetting and approval as he steps aside from office while pending investigations to be concluded.
Being a law-abiding citizen and a supporter of the President’s war on corruption, I will follow all the legal channels to clear my name and prove my innocence before the courts. I am and have always been innocent and remain confident that justice will be my shield.
Some reports, however, suggest that the letter is fake.
Governor Sonko appeared before Milimani Courts on Monday where he denied charges against him over irregular procurement and payment of over Ksh 357 million.
The court has also denied his request for bail but had no objection to the release of other accused persons in the case.
